she said, "'cause he made you perfect, babe"
"so hold your head up girl and you'll go far,
listen to me when i say"

chorus:
i'm beautiful in my way
'cause god makes no mistakes
i'm on the right track baby

i was born this way

Bono Thrills Blind Fan At Nashville Gig

A blind U2 fan was given a concert moment he and his wife will never forget in Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday night when Bono invited him up onstage to perform with the rockers.

The rocker was finishing the set on the latest stop on U2’s 360 world tour when he spotted the fan and his sign request to perform a song for his wife.

Approaching the lucky fan, Bono asked him what he wanted to play – and then invited him to join the band.
The frontman announced, “Get a guitar for this dude. Gents, we have a surprise guest.”

To rapturous applause, the nervous fan began playing All I Want Is You as the band joined in.
Bono was clearly impressed and insisted the fan took home the guitar that he played as a brief member of U2.

Duran Duran Cancels Summer Tour Due To Voice Problems

Duran Duran have cancelled their entire summer tour to allow frontman Simon Le Bon to rest his damaged vocal cords.
The Rio hitmakers were set to kick off their tour in Dublin, Ireland next week but on Tuesday the group scrapped all their shows after physicians advised the singer to undergo physical therapy.
He tells the Associated Press, “I am doing everything I can to work through this and get back on track as soon as possible.”
It is not known if Duran Duran will reschedule their performances for a later date.
The band cancelled a string of dates on their U.K. tour in May after Le Bon fell ill with what medics believed was a throat infection.
After resting his voice for three weeks and undergoing a series of tests, he was still deemed too ill to perform and Duran Duran were forced to axe five dates in mainland Europe.
The cancellations prompted guitarist John Taylor to release a statement, which read, “You have no idea how disappointed we all are at the news that we won’t be playing this weekend. We have been holding on to that hope while we waited to hear from the doctors. We know what this means to the fans, so many of whom are traveling (sic) tremendous distances to see us.
“It’s hardest on Simon who is doing everything he can in terms of a recovery plan. We feel utterly powerless over the situation, as all we can do is wait for his injury to mend.”

Selena Gomez Offers Song-By-Song Breakdown of 'When the Sun Goes Down' (Video)

Selena Gomez is celebrating the release of her brand new album, 'When the Sun Goes Down,' and while you can listen to the entire record here on JSYK, the 18-year-old is now offering a track-by-track breakdown for her fans.

In a recent interview with Billboard, the pop star talked about all 12 songs on the new full-length, which she's excited to finally share with the world. "I'm really proud of it," Selena says in the video. "I definitely think this is a different kind of album for me."

The Disney star talks about each song, including, of course, her latest single, 'Love You Like a Love Song.' "It's one of those tracks that's kind of addictive because it's kind of repetitive in the best way," she explains. "It's one of those songs that you can't get out of your head. It was written by Tim [James] and Antonina [Armato] of Rock Mafia and they're so sweet, I've worked with them from "Naturally" and my first album and my second album and third album now. It's nice, they kind of watched me grow up a little bit so they know me personally."

New Album Justin Bieber

Don't worry, fans: Justin Bieber won't be promoting perfume forever.
The singer is already planning his next album, although it's unlikely to hit stores any time soon. In an interview with MTV, Justin said of the eventual CD:

"I want to write a lot myself. I will be working with a lot of other producers and stuff like that, but I'm just writing a lot, writing on tour."
Greetings, Justin Bieber

Fans have plenty of options to listen to until Bieber does take over the charts with his next release, of course. He's already come out with (deep breath...) My World, My World 2.0, Never Say Never - The Remixes and My Worlds Acoustic.

Expect to hear more of the latter down the road.
"I've done a lot on my acoustic guitar, so it's gonna have that vibe. I'm not gonna really limit myself... I know there's country music, there's rock music, but my music is different. My voice is not meant for any style. I just want to make music."
Should we bother to ask: Are you excited for a new album from Justin Bieber?

Justin Bieber to Release New Album in 2011

Justin Bieber is busy touring around the world right now, but he's also currently working on material for his brand new album, due out this year, he says.

"Been writing alot of songs on the road," he wrote on his Facebook page. "Excited to just get this music out later this year and record this summer. #BELIEVE #newmusic."
That's right, Beliebers. Justin has broken plenty of records in the last two years with 'My World' and 'My World 2.0,' and now he's ready to raise the bar with his third solo album of fresh tunes.

Among others, Justin has been working on new songs with producer/songwriter Sean Garrett, who told Billboard that the 17-year-old's forthcoming album would have an older sound.

"What we're trying to do with Justin is to segue him into young adulthood," he said. "The one great thing about Justin Bieber is the fact that his fans are going to grow with him. So we want all the fans that started out with him to still be intrigued and excited about him, but we want to also stretch out a little bit and make the fans that are 22-23 years old love Justin as well. When Justin Timberlake went from the last album of *N Sync to his first solo album -- I want to say [we're aiming for] that level. That's the bar for the type of song, that level of 'Cry Me a River,' big records."

In 2011, Justin became the first artist in nearly two decades to have four albums inside the Top 40 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. This includes his first two albums, as well as 'My Words Acoustic' and 'Never Say Never: The Remixes.'

Gun Shy Assassin Presents Adler Chatter With Chris Adler

Adler Chatter With Chris Adler

Gun Shy Assassin is humbled to be able to bring you an ongoing string of quick, casual, off-the-cuff interviews with the very talented Chris Adler, drummer for the one and only Lamb of God. Chris will be checking in with Gun Shy Assassin from time to time with updates on what’s going on in his world, and will occasionally answer some topical and ridiculous questions from me. Without further explanation, here is a Gun Shy Assassin Exclusive: the eleventh installment of Adler Chatter with Chris Adler.

Recently, I had the chance to head down to a recording studio located somewhere in New York City, where I got to watch Chris Adler track drums for a track slated for the forthcoming Lamb of God record. Adler was working in the studio with Josh Wilbur, the producer who helmed the band’s previous studio offering, 2009’s Wrath.

As I watched these two masters at work, meticulously fine-tuning what was a crushing track, rife with ripping guitars, I had to ask Chris if he was ever worried about that ever-present criticism bands face in metal when they don’t record an album in their garage: the “overproduced” knock.
Is overproducing ever a concern for a band, when they’ve reached a level of success where, time is no longer an issue?

“There is an inherent struggle in being in a young band or being a young artist and creating raw product without the resources to perfect it,” Adler says. “That battle is what builds the artist and the following. If and when success shines down, all of a sudden the resources become available to take things to the original idea of perfection. It’s easy to take that for granted and too far — relying on those means and support to create for you.”

Adler said that the “product we create is crafted in our homes and in our rehearsal space together. We now have access to the gear and personnel that help us sound and perform our best, but we have never and would refuse to allow that support to create for us. Our battle is to out-do ourselves and our previous work. For every million things we do that a band with no money can’t do, there are 10 million things we don’t do that we could. At the end of the day, we only have to answer to ourselves and we take a lot of pride in our work, how it comes about and how it’s presented. I want to sound good. My idea of cred doesn’t involve a cassette demo recorded on a Satanic boom box in a cave. I get that people identify with the struggle; that is what metal is all about. That’s why we all care as much as we do to be and sound the best we can.”

I thought back to Lamb of God’s As The Palaces Burn, because the song I was listening to sort of reminded me of that feeling I had when I first started listening to the band, back when Palaces first dropped.

Regular readers of Gun Shy Assassin know that I have a small obsession with Devin Townsend, who actually produced that album for Lamb of God, which ended up being a breakthrough album for them. It’s a metal record that will stand the test of time and still holds up all these years later.

I had to know whether Adler was keeping up with Devin since that collaboration, and was himself, a fan of Hevy Devy’s music.

“I have always thought and continue to think that Devin is a genius,” Adler said. “I originally suggested him as a producer for Palaces and would love the chance to work with him again. I fell in love with Ocean Machine and since then, he has grown into his genius and put out material far beyond my comprehension.”
More next week, folks.

Chris Adler is the drummer for Grammy-nominated metal band Lamb of God and the author of the book “The Making of Lamb of God’s New American Gospel,” a comprehensive behind-the-scenes narrative book detailing the early days of Lamb of God and the writing and recording of their New American Gospel LP. Anything else you need to know about Chris Adler, you can find at his web site, Chris-Adler.com.

Eminem's 'Recovery' passes 1 million digital downloads in U.S.

 Eminem Grammys 2011-Robert Gauthier
Eminem’s “Recovery” this week has become the first album to sell 1 million digital downloads in the U.S., the rapper’s label, Interscope Records, announced Tuesday. That's about 25% of the collection's U.S. sales total, which is nearing 4-million copies since its release last year, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The achievement comes just a week after Eminem returned to the No. 1 slot on the national sales chart with his collaboration with rapper Royce da  5’9”, “Bad Meets Evil,” giving Eminem his second No. 1 album within 12 months.
“Over the years we've made a concerted effort to engage Em's online fan base,” the rapper’s manager, Paul Rosenberg, said in a statement, “so this achievement is especially rewarding. Eminem made an amazing album with ‘Recovery’ and the fans responded in record numbers.”

Recovery” gave Eminem his sixth No.  1 album, and it yielded two Grammy Awards, for rap album and rap solo performance.  He is making only a handful of concert appearances in 2011, most recently at the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Tennessee on June 11. Other tour dates are noted on his website.

The digital milestone for an album was reached 5 1/2 years after Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl” became the first single to pass the 1-million mark for paid digital downloads in 2005.
